I had one of those dogs in the early 1960's I have a photo of me with it and the doll was slightly taller than me! I was maybe 3-4 years old. They were called 'Walking doll" because if you took their hand and led it along, its legs were geared to step, on foot ahead of the other. I think they chose one of these dolls for this film for two reasons 1) They are quite large. and 2) They are designed to stand up by themselves and most dolls are not. Actually brought back some nice memories for me. The dress looked like the original, too.
